Everyday when I log on to check out the stats for Spiceful Kitchen I normally see my Overnight French Toast Recipe as the top post for the day and I really can’t blame you all for loving it so much. In fact it’s my personal favorite way to make french toast. No one gets stuck flipping bread all morning, while everyone eats in shifts, it takes minutes to prepare, and it tastes AH-mazing! When Fall was looming on the horizon I decided I wanted to do a new version of this popular recipe.
The one thing I look forward to every Fall is the official Organic Apple season, they are my favorite fruit of Fall. Organic Honeycrisp Apples are by far my favorite, however I was just a little too early to use them in this recipe. So I reached out to my friends over at Melissa’s Produce and asked them to send me some of their very best Organic Gala Apples, which lucky for me they did! I have to tell you coming home to a box of fresh produce on your doorstep feels like Christmas.
How-To Prepare Apple Pie Overnight French Toast Recipe
This recipe is just as easy to prepare as my Overnight French Toast Recipe. The only difference is you have to peel and slice a few apples to start, just like you would for an apple pie. Toss them in a bowl with a little lemon juice and seasoning. Next slice your french bread into 1/2 inch thick slices, I prefer to do this on the bias but honestly it doesn’t matter, just try to make them all the same thickness. Place in a buttered 9×13 baking dish, they can be touching but not on top of each other. In a separate bowl wish together eggs, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract.
Slowly pour your egg mixture over the slices of bread, making sure to cover all the dry spots. If you miss any or the bread doesn’t look completely wet gently flip the slice over. It’s ok if you break the bread a little it will bake back together, just shove it back in there. Press the apple slices around the bread and try not to cover the tops of the bread too much. Pour the remaining liquid from the apples over the bread (optional). Cover and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.
Baking Apple Pie Overnight French Toast Recipe
When you’re ready to bake this recipe, pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees F. Make sure if you’re using a glass 9×13 you pull it out at this time so it warms up some. Failing to do this can cause your pan to shatter in the oven. Bake uncovered for 30 to 35 mins. In no time your house will be filled with the amazing aroma of baked apple pie and cinnamon-vanilla french toast. I bet this will be the one morning you wont have to force anyone out of bed.
